In addition to being a solid gift, a Mastercard gift card can also be used to set spending limits and budget out vacations.
The Mastercard gift card holder is never limited to purchasing from just one store. The card can be used anywhere Mastercard debit cards are accepted.
It’s also an excellent way to protect your funds, and depending on where you get it from, you could even personalize it!
While there is no designated mobile app to check your gift card’s balance on the move, there are three other ways you can check the balance quickly.
I’ll uncover all three methods and discuss some critical features of Mastercard gift cards.
How To Check Mastercard Gift Card Balance
There are three ways of doing it:
Checking your Mastercard gift card’s balance online is the easiest and best way to track your funds.
It’ll take you maybe a minute to find the card’s balance online.
First, you must visit mcgift.giftcardmall.com and click on the “Check Balance/Transactions” button.
You must then enter your gift card number, its expiration date, and the three-digit code on the back (CVV).
Once you hit the “Submit” button, the balance will pop up, along with a list of transactions.
Over the Phone
You can also check your Mastercard gift card’s balance instantly by calling 1 (877) 322-4710.
You don’t need to speak to an agent or make any requests – dialing the number will connect you to an automated line, where you must enter your gift card details.
After you’re authenticated, you will hear the details of your gift card’s balance.
Checking your balance over the phone will take a little longer than checking it online. However, it’s still a great, fast way to go about it.
In The Store
You can ask the cashier to check the balance on your card after paying for an item or service using your Mastercard gift card.
However, it’s important to note that some retailers do not have access to the details of the remaining balance on your card.
For this reason, I do not recommend that you rely on this method to keep track of the balance on your Mastercard gift card.
How To Check Mastercard Gift Card Balance In An ATM
You cannot check your gift card’s balance in an ATM because Mastercard gift cards aren’t designed to work with ATMs.
It’s also important to note that you cannot withdraw cash using a Mastercard gift card. You can only pay for services and items with it.
Fees For Checking Mastercard Gift Card Balance
You will not be charged any fees, no matter how many times you check Mastercard gift card balance using any method.
Mastercard notes that no fees are levied on the card after registration – so if you see any fees on your statement, call the customer care number on the back of the card and enquire about it.
How To Check Mastercard Gift Card Balance Without Registering It
After you receive your Mastercard gift card, the first thing you must do is register it using the online portal mcgift.giftcardmall.com.
You will then be able to check the card’s balance using the same portal.
Registering your card will enable you to spend the funds on the card online and pay mail and telephone order merchants.
These merchants require confirmation of identity, and if you don’t register your card, they won’t have your name, address, and telephone number to ensure that it’s really you that’s using the card.
Most merchants decline an unregistered card even if it has sufficient funds to pay for the item or service.
FAQs About Mastercard Gift Card
After you get your card, note down the card number and CVV on a piece of paper and keep it safe.
If your gift card gets stolen, call customer service at 1 (877) 322-4710 and cancel it immediately. Mastercard’s Zero Liability Protection will keep you safe from unauthorized purchases if your card is lost or stolen.
If there are funds on your card when it’s stolen, you will be sent a replacement card free of charge.
You can obtain a PIN for your Mastercard gift card by visiting mcgift.giftcardmall.com on your phone or computer.
Alternatively, you can call the number on the back of the card and request a PIN.
It’s important to remember that a PIN will only protect your transactions – you won’t be able to withdraw cash at ATMs even after you get a PIN.
It depends on the gas station you visit. The company recommends that you prepay for gas at the register to avoid an authorization hold on the remainder of your funds.
Restaurants, hotels, and other service-oriented merchants accept Mastercard gift cards as a mode of payment.
However, some merchants charge you 20% extra, and sometimes more to cover any tips you may leave.
If the balance on your gift card is less than the total bill (preliminary charges + 20%), your gift card will be declined.
Any excess amount held by the hotel or restaurant will be added back to the gift card within 30 days.
Some merchants will ask you to pay using another card or pay with cash. However, many other merchants will accept your card and carry out a split tender transaction.
You will need to pay the remaining amount via another mode of payment. Cash is the norm, so make sure you carry some even if you have a Mastercard gift card.
