Need to learn how to use Venmo? It’s a lot easier than you’d think, and in this post, I will highlight everything you need to know to use Venmo correctly.
Venmo is arguably one of the most convenient payment services out there – regardless of if you’re using an iPhone or an Android phone.
You can send and receive money in seconds with just a few taps. Venmo also supplies an option which enables you to request money.
It’s one of the most user-friendly there are, and learning to use it is a lot less overwhelming than you think.
In this post, I will highlight everything you need to know to use Venmo correctly.
How To Pay With Venmo Online

Almost all merchants – including Uber and Amazon – integrate Venmo as a payment option in their mobile app.
However, to use this option, you will need to install the Venmo app on your phone in addition to the merchant’s app. It is the only way to pay for in-app purchases using Venmo.
Now, depending on where you’re making a payment, here are the different ways you would make a payment with Venmo:
Sending Money Using The Venmo App
- 1Launch the Venmo app on your phone by clicking on its icon on your home screen/menu.
- 2After the app opens, you will see a symbol that looks like the pen and pad with a “$” sign on it. This is called the payment button, and this is the icon you must tap if you want to send or receive money (more on that later).

- 3After you tap on the payment button, a textbox will appear. Enter the username of who you want to send money to. Alternatively, you can find the person in your friend’s list that appears when you scroll down.
- 4If you enter a username that you’ve never transacted with before, a confirmation pop-up asking you to confirm if you’ve picked the right one will appear.
- 5Next, enter the amount you want to transfer to the designated field. You can also optionally write a brief memo or description of what you’re paying for.
- 6Since the app works in conjunction with its social network, you can choose whether the transaction is visible to your friends or not. This feature becomes accessible by tapping on the icon at the bottom of the page – you much pick between “Private,” “Public,” and “Friends.”
- 7Post setting your preferences, tap on the “Pay” button.
- 8You will then need to select how you want to pay – you can choose between a credit card, a debit card, and or a bank account that’s linked to your Venmo.
After you hit the final “Pay” button, you will receive both a confirmation email and a notification of the transaction on the app’s main menu.

Paying For A Purchase In Another App With Venmo
- 1If an app has a Venmo button in its payment section, you can tap on it to pay using Venmo.
- 2You will see a prompt that requests permission to link your Venmo account with the merchant. You must grant permission.
- 3You can then pay for the purchase by navigating through the prompts that follow.
- 4If you need to disconnect your account from the merchant, tap “Disconnect” after tapping on the merchant’s name via the “Connected Merchants” menu in the Settings.
How To Transfer Money From Venmo To A Bank Account?

- 2Find the hamburger menu on the top-left corner of the screen, and tap on it.

- 4Type in the amount you want to transfer in the field that will appear on the next screen.
- 5Then, select how you want to transfer it. You can opt to transfer for free, but there’s also the option of transferring instantly after paying a fee.

How To Receive Money Using Venmo?
Making sure that you’ve linked a card or a bank account to your Venmo account will make the process a lot easier.
The app doesn’t require you to press a specific button to confirm the transaction.
However, you will need to take some steps to transfer the funds to your bank account from your Venmo account.
If you haven’t linked your bank account to your Venmo, here’s how you do it:
- 1Launch the Venmo app on your phone by clicking on its icon on your home screen/menu.
- 2Find the hamburger menu on the top-left corner of the screen, and tap on it.
- 3Tap on the “Payment Methods” button.
- 4Select the “Add a bank or card” option, and then select “Bank.”
- 5Add the bank account’s details in the designated field on the next screen that appears.

While connecting and verifying your bank account with the app isn’t required, I highly recommend that you do it. It will make sending and receiving money a lot easier.
