I’m an American citizen with American income that lives between Thailand and California. Since Capital one will not accept a foreign contact number on top of your American contact number many purchases are impossible to make when you travel.
This is simply a case of corporate greed, reducing their losses from fraud no matter how many 20 year customers that inconveniences.
I recently used my capital one credit card to pay for $20 of food and coffee from a local coffee shop. Capital one thought that was “suspicious” and put a security freeze on my account. It wasn’t just a simple phone call to resolve the issue. It was three phone calls and a total hold time of 2 1/2 hours, in addition to a 7-10 day review period by their “dedicated” fraud department. My banks credit card department will only place a security freeze on my account if I call them and request a freeze.
Both of my accounts are restricted and I made my payments! Nice every payment made interest is taken out if the payment and the cards are if no use to be. If the restrictions aren’t lifted I am unable to open another account and I need an emergency card .

I started paying my Capital One balances with a new bank account. I carry zero balance on my CAP1 cards. Now both are restricted. Going on 2 weeks now. All they will say is that it’s because I started paying with a new bank account. SO WHAT? Who are YOU to be allowed to judge what account you are being paid from? Isn’t my bank account information NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS?
I was approved for a capital one card 5 months ago with a 300$ limit in hopes to build my credit. I use this card for all my purchases and I pay the balance right away with my bank card checking account. I shop online quite abit and this is the card I prefer to give to merchants. I’ve made some 200 dollar plus purchases lately for building materials that I need and I pay it back from my checking right after the purchase so that I can keep using the card. I’ve never gone over the limit.
